The Gospel

The good news is that Jesus came to save people.

Romans 3:23

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

We have all sinned, and are worthy of only death and judgement. Jesus paid for our sins with His blood.

1 Cor 15:1-4

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Very simply He died for our sins at the cross, was buried, and then arose on the third day. Resurrection is the great sign that He is the Son of God, and thus able to save us. All who place their faith on Him that He shall save them are saved.

Romans 10: 9-10

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Thus believe that Lord Jesus was resurrected, and confess it out loud to someone that He is the Savior (and yours). Do this and you are saved. No good deeds shall save you or keep you, your salvation is in the hands of Jesus.

This is the choice you have, to believe this, or not.

  1. I believe you missed repentance in there.

    • endwatcher says:

      Repentance is there if you believe all have sinned, including yourself, and believe on Jesus for your salvation. POsting on the fly here, but the biblical definition of repentance is simply a change of mind. Believing the Gospel is certainly that.

      • Yes, but also the will to change from our wicked ways. I say this because there are people who openly admit they are sinners, but see no need to change, and sure, they’ll “accept” Jesus if it gets them to heaven.

        “The time is here, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel” – Mark 1:15.

        You will notice there are two, *separate* parts – repent AND believe, both are critical. You term it as “a change of mind”, which I will guess is from Paul Washer (if not, I do recommend it). If you note his sermons on the Gospel, he does go into much greater detail.

        On another note, man cannot come to Christ on his own. Mere intellectual assent does not make one saved. The power of the Holy Spirit is at work with every true conversion.

      • endwatcher says:

        Changing our ways is the fruit of salvation, not salvation itself. Our sanctification should not be confused with salvation. Even those who believe to merely avoid hell have a form of wisdom, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I would hope they would mature from there and love the Lord as well. Even if they do not, there will be less reward for them in the end, but they will at least have life.

      • Yes, an important point – But if you note closely, I never said changing our ways. What I said was critically different.

  2. endwatcher says:

    Is the critical point the will to change that you mentioned? I agree that the Holy Spirit is the one who causes conversions, the increase is always of God. Some wont be saved no matter our efforts. No one seeks true salvation unless God is working in their heart.
    I have not had any experience with Paul Washer’s ministry, I suppose I can check it out sometime soon.
